Serve.
“My heart was changed, my life was impacted. It is a huge perspective check and a chance to ‘recalculate’ how I prioritize the Lord in my life. Most of the time I have it all backwards. Trips like this humble me and leave an impression deep within my soul.”
- Anna Fisher, STM Team Member, 2008
Short-Term Missions
“Strategically brining Christians face to face with the world”
Every year CFCI-Nicaragua hosts several short-term teams. Teams come in all shapes and sizes and from all parts of the U.S. and Canada. Usually, teams are made up of 10-20 people and stay for a period of 8-10 days. Some teams are made up of youth or college-age members. Other teams are made up of families. Most teams consist of a mixture of people from the same church who focus on a particular area of ministry (such as medical, construction, evangelism, teaching, or training).
Each team comes to serve and has a desire to use their spiritual gifts, abilities, and financial resources to help meet the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of Nicaraguans. Most of our teams partner with a Nicaraguan church and have the unique opportunity to stay with families from that church. This opportunity allows team members to get an authentic taste of Nicaraguan food and culture and to form meaningful friendships.
Short-term teams are an excellent method for cross-cultural ministry. Everyone benefits. The team members experience cross-cultural ministry and living. Teams help us (CFCI-Nicaragua) form deep, trusting relationships with local churches. From that relationship we continue to minister together with them. Lastly, the Nicaraguan Christians benefit from the medical care, training, financial support, and spiritual growth to minister both in their church and to their community.
Does this sound like something you and your church would like to take part in? If so, please contact Carey Franklin at carey@dlzip.com. Click on the menu above for more information on the types of short-term mission teams CFCI-Nicaragua hosts.
A Short-Term Missions Story
Ten years ago Pastor Carlos Gonzalez had a dream — a vision — that one day a group of North Americans would come to his church to serve the people, minister, and be used by God to start an exciting movement for Christ in the community. Ten years ago Carlos had this dream. Over those ten years plans were made on different occasions to bring a short-term team in to serve, but roadblocks always seemed to get in the way.
Pastor Carlos prayed and prayed for his dream to become a reality.
In 2008 it did.
Exactly ten years after Carlos’s vision, a short-term mission team from Texas came to his village, Caimito, to bless the community with week of fun and fellowship, a “Kid’s Camp” like that area of Nicaragua has never seen before!
Watch Pastor Carlos’s dream becoming a reality in the video below. And think about how you could be a part of a vision — an answer to prayer — as part of a short-term mission team in Nicaragua!
