History
Christ for the City in Nicaragua began as a vision of Christ for the City in Costa Rica. After several years of prayer and preparation, the Fuentes family (Alcides, Sileny, Paola and Priscilla) and Amanda Van Deman moved to Nicaragua in April 2002. In addition to learning and adapting to the Nicaraguan culture, they began to organize the administrative office, to receive short-term mission teams from North America, to identify the specific needs in Nicaragua, and to develop a ministry vision.
Nicaragua is a country with immense needs. The needs are so great that it is impossible for a mission to try to meet all of them. Therefore, CFCI-Nicaragua developed a vision to promote the unity of churches as a fundamental emphasis along with restoring people’s self-worth in Christ. We work alongside churches, national ministries, and individual Nicaraguans so that together we can extend the Kingdom of God in Nicaragua.
We minister alongside — not “in front of” or “behind.” This mutual partnership means that our focus is not planing new churches, but coming alongside existing churches and organizations. We focus our support in three areas: evangelism, leadership training, and social action in the form of education and health care. In each ministry project our goal is not to bring attention to ourselves, but to highlight local churches and ministries so that their light can shine brightly in a dark world. We are passionate about what God is doing in Nicaragua. Please read more about our specific ministries on this website!
